DESCRIPTION:Australian Fabians Cooperatives Policy Group\nWednesday\, 21 September\, 2022 – 06:00 PM \n \nBook here on the Fabians’ booking site \n888 Co-operative Causeway and Australian Fabians invite you to a panel discussion that explores: the role of cooperatives in building strong economically resilient communities. \nThis event addresses the role of cooperatives in building strong\, economically resilient communities and regions\, to generate ideas for public policy responses. \nThe event will be jointly hosted by 888 Co-operative Causeway and the Australian Fabians National Committee on Co-operatives and Mutuals (and is also being held as part of the New Economy Network Australia Cooperatives Week). \nThe 888 Co-operative Causeway is a Victorian based network that has founded Melbourne’s first cooperative co-working space in the heart of the CBD. \nBasil’s Table is an interview series inspired by Basil Varghese (patron of the 888 Co-operative Causeway)\, a well-known Melbourne-based community builder and advocate for social justice\, who has long been committed to ‘bridging the gap between those that have and have not’. \nThe Australian Fabians is an Australian independent left-leaning think tank that was established in 1947. The organisation’s stated aims are to “contribute to progressive political thinking” as well as “progressive political culture” \nWhat is the role of cooperatives in contributing to local and regional development strategies that are equitable and sustainable? How can this be advanced through federal\, state and local policy? How can we enhance the work of cooperatives in addressing economic disparities in Australia? \nSpeakers: \nLet’s hear from political activists and policymakers\, from across the political spectrum\, how they think we can make this happen in the Australian context: \n\nAdam Kempton: former State MLC Warrnambool (L-NP)\, speaking on “The role of rural communities in transforming agricultural production in Warrnambool”\nDr Tony Webb: academic and activist in LEAN\, (ALP)\, speaking on “The role of cooperatives in transforming MNC food production sites in the Goulburn Valley: a case study of Heinz and SPC”\nLinda Seaborn: works for the national co-operatives peak\, the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals as a Senior Policy Adviser\, speaking on “Perspectives from the peak body for cooperatives on the current political and policy landscape”.\n\nBook here on the Fabians’ booking site
